3) The Spider (continued)
Let us now stand back and look at our design. Go on, stand back, LOOK.
Have you noticed how the geometry looks like a figure on a cross? Not the conventional cross, maybe, more like a Tau, a headless cross. T shaped, just like the capital T of the Tor, it is said to be the true shape of the cross that was used two thousand years ago. Strange then, or maybe not, that in Egyptian mythology the tau cross represents LIFE.

f) The Culmination
Strange too, that in getting this far with the geometry we have used 14 lines, not 15 as some may have thought - in just the same way that the story of Osiris is sometimes told with 15 as the number of parts that were lost. Have we found the 14 parts of Osiris?
If we have, then the most important part that we have found and the one that will confirm that we have achieved this task , is his phallus. It may not be immediately obvious that we have found a phallus, but we have found an omphalos.
|
Omphalos An omphalos is an ancient religious stone artifact, or baetylus. In Greek, the word omphalos means "navel" (compare the name of Queen Omphale). According to the ancient Greeks, Zeus sent out two eagles to fly across the world to meet at its center, the "navel" of the world.
In the Jewish tradition, the Ark in the Temple in Jerusalem, through which God revealed himself to His people, was located on a Foundation stone[2] located on the Navel of the World.
Omphalos stones were said to allow direct communication with the gods. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omphalos |
The omphalos is also seen as a sacred 'accupuncture point' for the land, a point where good influences activate the natural healing properties of the earth and allow them to spread throughout the land. If there was one place on the planet you had to choose as the main accupuncture point, then Glastonbury Tor would be an excellent choice.
Can our old friend Le Serpent Rouge help us with our hunt? Let us look at the verse for Sagittarius and see what is said; on this occaision using Elizabeth Van Buren's translation: "Returning again to the white hill, the sky opening its floodgates I seem to sense close to me a presence, its feet in the water, like one who is going to receive the sign of baptism, I turn towards the east, and see facing me, unwinding endlessly his coils, the enormous RED SERPENT mentioned in the parchments, salty and bitter, the huge, unleashed beast becomes red with anger at the foot of the white mountain." (Copied exactly as written, from Refuge of the Apocalypse published by The C W Daniel Co Ltd 1986).
At Rennes le Chateau there is a 'white hill' with the castle of Blanchefort at it's summit and a 'salty' stream called Sals, so at first sight this verse is nothing to do with Glastonbury, but neither was Libra - until we found that it was. The clue is in the way that the verse is written. Note how it is nearly all one long sentence, all commas, allowing you to punctuate it how you please, allowing you to make whatever sense of it you please. No other verse in the poem is written like this.
The last three words of the French original are not left at the end of the verse in the English translations because there the words do not conform to what the translator thinks the poem means. The original French words at the end of the verse are ".... ou pied de ce mont blanc, rouge de colère." '.... at the foot of this white mountain, red with anger.' Looked at in isolation it is not clear whether what is 'red with anger.' is what is at the foot of the white mountain or the white mountain itself. "Devant" as well as being translated as ' becomes ' could also be translated as ' in front ', although then this part of the super-long sentence would not make grammatical sense.
There is another complication. Part of the Rennes le Château mystery concerns Henri Boudet, the priest the neighbouring village of Rennes les Bains at the same time that Saunière was the curé at RLC. Many believe it was he who discovered the secret of Rennes le Château and passed it on to Saunière. What Boudet passed down to us is a very strangely written book that is obvious nonsense. It tells us that all the great languages of the world are linked to the English language. All you have to do is pronounce the non-English word in it's own language and you can instantly translate it by recognising the English word that it sounds like. For instance: take the last word in the French version of the verse for Sagittarius - "colère". "Colère" translated into English normally is 'angry'. Translated Boudet's way it becomes 'colour'. We can go one stage further: "rouge de colère" sounds like "rouge decolère", meaning 'red reduced in anger' or going one stage further still: "rouge decolore" meaning 'faded red'. Could we be looking for a white mountain with something faded red at the bottom? Where is this white mountain?
We know from the poem that if we stand on the white mountain and look east we will see the 'le serpent rouge', so we are west of 'le serpent rouge'. So where is that? We have already seen that at RLC there is a stream called 'Sals', salty. The same trick used above can also be used on this part of the poem where "salée et amère", 'salty and bitter', becomes "saleté amour", where we get the sense of 'obscene lover', not far removed from salty and bitter!
If Boudet wrote Le Serpent Rouge what was he trying to tell us? That Le Serpent Rouge, the red serpent, is a phallus with a salty white stream like the limestone rich Sals?
Could our omphalos at Glastonbury, the Tor, be the 14th part of Osiris' body, the all important missing phallus as well as our fourteenth line? That is the question.
For this to be the case, the verse for Sagittarius, who we have seen, represents Osiris as well as every dying sun king, will have to describe the location at Glastonbury.
Is there a white stream uncoiling endlessly down the Tor? Yes there is !
The underground spring is capped near the top of the Tor where it can be heard rushing down the hill under a large manhole cover. It emerges at the bottom in Well House Lane inside the old well-house building. It is known as the White Spring because of the limestone deposits in it.
Is there a hill to the west of the Tor with a red stream? Yes there is !
The hill is called Chalice Hill and it is just the other side of Well House Lane from the Tor. It is a lot lower and more rounded and it too has a spring. The spring flows through the Chalice Well gardens to emerge in Well House Lane on the opposite side of the road to the White Spring. Some take small quantities of Chalice Well water due to the reputation it has for healing. The water is a pale red in colour because of the chalybeate iron deposits it contains.
Are all the requirements of the verse met? Yes they are !
Have we found the missing phallus, Osiris' 14th part? Yes, it is found !
We have found Osiris' missing phallus, the omphalos, the Tor: the ancient place where the sacred connection is made. But we have found more: we have found the Holy Grail, the thing that allows balance to be restored to the land, the Fisher King to be healed, Arthur to be released from the underworld and ultimately, ourselves to be healed. We still cannot see it or touch it, so let us draw it.
We have already drawn the 35 cm line, the one that went to the Tor, the phallus; so now we must draw the line that goes to the chalice, the female symbol. This is the final line, the line of completion
As I lifted my pencil, I saw in my mind's eye the pie that I saw in my dream and the 27° segment that completes it. It was as though the small ° of the degree sign began to change. A small line started to appear and the ° sign began to look like a Φ the sign of the Divine proportion, then the ° and the I began to separate and I could see what the symbols were representing. They were representing us - we were the Divine proportion - every man, woman and child on the planet. We were all created in the image of the Divine - whether black white, red yellow, disabled or able bodied, it did not matter. We were all the same, all images of each other, all images of the Divine. I saw this in an instant but it seemed as though there were thousands of years passing through my mind at the same time: all the years, all the tears that we had spent getting it wrong, learning, or not, as the case may be. And I felt angry, and bitter, but I understood.
27 cm long, the final line goes back to the 7 cm circle, but it is not the final measurement. 27 cm from the top of the smooth rounded Chalice Hill takes us back to the crossing point of the 7 cm circle with a track called Middle Drove which is also a clearly labelled footpath. To the left and right running parallel are other tracks, also footpaths, the one to the left Bailey's Drove and the one to the right Backlane Drove. Let us measure them.
Backlane Drove is interesting. The other two tracks go straight to the circle but Backlane Drove heads off as though it might miss the circle altogether. Suddenly it turns and goes into the circle anyway. Measuring from the tip of the triangle that pokes through the enclosing circle, the point of divine intervention, to where the footpath tuns towards the circle. 138 mm. And from the tip of the triangle to where the footpath passes through the circle. 142 mm. If we take an average we have 140 mm. As 4 is seen as the number of encasement in physical things, of worldly things, this is probably the path of those who cannot be bothered, who have too much to do - and it doesn't concern them anyway, after all - what proof is there? But eventually they do change, and join those on the middle path inside the circle after all.
Next there is Bailey's Drove. The straight path of Bailey's Drove only passes 7 mm into the circle - the same number of millimetres that the line was short in the upward pointing triangle, the one representing man. After 7 mm the straight line becomes a strange curve, totally unlike the other two footpaths. Let us see what the measurement says. 166 mm. This looks as though the ones who choose this path will be going nowhere. They have not chosen the middle path, they have gone too far. 166 indicating a violent or fanatical path that acheives nothing. The name Bailey seems almost like a reflection of 666 - a dire warning to us all maybe.
Next, the middle path. This seems like the comfortable alternative - the path of choice. But we all know that this is not the case. The easy choice is Backlane Drove. Do nothing, get carried along by the others, and at the last minute come in, all smiles, patting each other on the back. It's your choice. Each will choose according to their nature.
We have nearly finished. Maybe we should reflect on the drawing and look again at the old symbols mixing with the new. Nowhere is this more perfectly shown than at the two lines we have just drawn.
Extend (faintly) the two lines from the Tor and Chalice Hill out over the town of Glastonbury and see where they cross. Nothing could be more perfect, more sublime, as they cross, over - a cross.
The cross on UK maps indicates a small chapel, and so it is. A place of humility where those inside are concerned only with quiet devotion, not outward shows of excess.
What a perfect way to end when we know that it is only our own excesses that have been responsible for the mess that we now face.
Oh yes - there is just one more loose end to tidy up.
Two thousand years ago, a man who knew he was about to die took a fishing trip with some friends on the Sea of Galilee. He returned with 153 fish. For two thousand years we have been passing through the age of Pisces, the sign of the fishes. It is strange that he was not known so much as a fisherman but as a shepherd with a flock, for the sheep was the sign of Aries, the age before his. The symbols continue from one Age to the next. They cannot be erased.
The shepherd comes to meet us now on an ancient sheep drove just outside Glastonbury to hand over the baton from his Age to the next as he tips out his catch of 153 fish onto dry land. Will these fish learn to walk on their own two legs, as they must if they are to survive? He has given them the best possible chance as he has left us not far from the two streams representing balance. He has also brought the baton itself, his staff: proof. When seen as twin streams intertwined around the central staff of proof they then become the Caduceus of healing, something we sorely need. He has certainly left us in the best possible place, for he has left us at the point where the Middle Drove enters the 7 cm circle, exactly 153 mm from the tip of his triangle.
So now we know what it is all about: a time of healing, of regaining our balance.
The Red and the White, the angry and bitter being passified by the calm and gentle, the lion lying down with the lamb.
Eldorado, Shambhala, every culture has a name for this lost paradise, this heaven on Earth
- and now we see that it is attainable.
There is only one thing that can be said:
WELCOME TO THE AGE OF AQUARIUS.
